I have the habit of being a celebrity watcher. Having graduated from People Magazine, I now read The Wall Street Journal Magazine, which comes out a few weekends a year. The magazine profiles certain business people by tracking their day from waking to bed. Reading about the life schedules of famous, effective people gives me tips for my own life. Arianna Huffington was profiled in the July/August issue. She wakes up at 7:00 AM and begins her day with meditation, yoga postures and a light breakfast. The early wake time, mediation , yoga and light meal are very in sync with Ayurveda's morning recommendations. Morning is kapha time which is sluggish, so the movement and light food starts her day off right. The meditation centers her and allows for clear thinking.
The second Ayurvedic habit she honors is sleep. She tries to get 7 to 8 hours a night. She even offers two nap rooms at her office headquarters for employees to recharge themselves during the day. Sleep is a pillar of health in Ayurveda for the rest and rejuvenation it provides to the physical and mental body.
While my political views do not align with Ms. Huffington, I admire how she built her organization and how she manages her whole day, not just the Ayurvedic parts. I will wait for the next issue of The Wall Street Journal Magazine and see which tracked personality will teach me something.
Stay healthy & well,
Lisa
