Instant Noodles Putting The Pounds On You

Did you know that eating more than two servings a week of instant ramen noodles increases the risk of metabolic syndrome in women?  Metabolic syndrome is a cluster of conditions that include increased blood pressure, a high blood sugar level, excess body fat around the waist and abnormal cholesterol levels when occurring together, increase the risk of heart disease, stroke and diabetes.

People do not always feel different with metabolic syndrome and they tend to discount the risk involved in the diseases it may cause.  However, people don't always realize that the insulin resistance linked to metabolic syndrome makes them gain weight.  It is the kind of weight that people have a really hard time losing.  First, the insulin resistance makes a person crave those salty/sugary foods that pack on the pounds.  The body is in a weakened state and looking for energy which salty and sugary processed foods give.  Second, even if a person tries to cut back and does eat less food, the body has difficulty burning calories in a normal way.  People are more prone to gain weight even with less calories being consumed.  Weight gain is an issue that makes people pay attention.  Metabolic syndrome is not a good thing for weight loss or for your health.

What's the deal with the instant noodles? What makes them so bad? It is the preservative in them called TBQH (tertiary-butyl hydroquinone).  A gastrointestinal specialist conducted an experiment with a time lapse video inside the stomach to what would happen after two hours of digesting ramen noodles.  Guess what? Even after two hours, the noodles were mostly intact which was unlike the homemade ramen noodles that were used as a comparison.  If the instant noodles are not breaking down and digesting in a normal way, this puts a huge stress on the body.  The food may even remain undigested and become a toxin in the body.  Undigested toxins are 'dead weight' and cause weight gain.

In Ayurveda healthy digestion is one of the pillars of good health.  The body needs the nutrition from the food we eat to function well.  When digestion is impaired, we do not get the nutrition we need and we make an already fuel deprived body work even harder.  The body functions and systems begin to break down causing uncomfortable symptoms and eventually disease.

Processed foods with their added chemicals have the potential to cause harm to the body.  And even worse, they cause you to gain weight.  Just avoiding TBQH is a simple weight loss tip.

Stay healthy & well,
Lisa
