Easy Naturally Sweetened Raspberry Applesauce

On Passover we only buy foods with special kosher passover certification.  Most of the foods are not healthy or even organic.  While the kids enjoy the free pass for eight days, I like to sneak in something healthy somewhere.  They like berry flavored applesauce, and during the rest of the year I can find organic and healthy applesauce at the health food store.  This recipe is easy, healthy and usually loved by everyone.  The kids can even help you make it by peeling apples and pureeing the mixture with a hand blender.  Healthy food and a creative activity- it does not get much better than this.

Ingredients:
  • 7 pounds organic apples peeled and quartered
  • 12 ounce bag frozen organic raspberries (you can experiment with other frozen berries)
  • 2/3 cup grape juice
Instructions:
  1. Combine all ingredients in a 6-8 quart pot and cover.
  2. Bring to low boil and gently simmer until tender - about 30 to 60 minutes.
  3. Let cool, so the mixture temperature is comfortable to work with.
  4. Puree with hand blender.
  5. Package into convenient container(s) and store in the refrigerator.  This freezes well also.
Stay healthy & well,
Lisa
